PROSPECT PRANCE XC RACES (Race Distances: 1/4, 1/2, and 1mile)
Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 @ Prospect HS
The Prospect Girls Cross Country program hosts the Prospect Prance annually in the fall. In the past this event was conducted on Columbus Day, but now that it is now longer a day off school it has been moved to mid-September. The goal of the event is to create a positive atmosphere around running and promoting a healthy lifestyle. At the event we also sell T-shirts to support our dear friend Cammy. Cammy is a friend of Coach Wintermute's and the Prospect team. In 2011, Cammy was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome when she was 2 years old. "Cammy Can" as she is known has become a model for life and a continual reminder that with enough passion and support anything is possible. Our goal is to one day see Cammy run the Prospect Prance just like you and me and to continue to raise awareness in hopes of one day finding a cure.

"Cammy Can"
Cammy was born in March of 2009 and in January of 2011 Cammy was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a genetic disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 girls. Girls born with Rett often progress as normal until they hit a stagnation period, followed by a regression where they lose the ability to communication and purposeful use of their hands. Girls with Rett Syndrome are cognitively very aware of their surroundings but the limitations are the difficulties in communicating with the world around them. Cammy has learned to communicate through an eye gaze computer and with the help of a loving family and amazing therapists she is progressing.
"Cammy Can" as she is known has become a model for many and a continual reminder that with enough passion and support anything is possible. She is blessed to have two unbelievable parents who have travelled the nation to raise awareness for all girls with Rett Syndrom. In 2011, Jackie (Cammy's mom) decided to run the Chicago marathon. From a non-runner to a 26.2miles that's a lot of love. In 2014, Bill (Cammy's dad) decided he could do even better and ran across the State of Illinois in 5 days (nearly 150 miles) a few years after being told he should never run again due to a back injury. Where there is a will there is a way!
